You need 36 hours of insurance continuing education for Iowa to renew your license. These hours need to be done every 3 years when your license is due for renewal. However, Iowa does have some additional restrictions that not all states have. Since there is no national insurance producers license, your license is issued by a specific state. This means that each state can have their own requirements for renewal.
Additional CE requirements in Iowa
In Iowa, the renewal period is 3 years, and 36 hours of insurance CE have to be done for every renewal. However, Iowa has an extra restriction as well. Like other states, Iowa has a minimum number of ethics hours that must be taken. Specifically, Iowa requires 3 ethics hours per renewal period. But they also have limitations on self-study courses. Only 18 of the 36 hours can be done via self-study. The other 18 have to be done by an approved provider and taught by an instructor.
Does that mean I can’t use BMFCE for all of my CE hours?
Fortunately, the self-study requirement doesn’t mean that your classes have to be done in person in a classroom. They can still be completed through webinars as long as they are taught by an approved instructor.
